The Great Hack is an award winning documentary detailing Cambridge Analytica, a secretive company specializing in influencing elections for right-wing groups. Through weaponising so-called Big Data, which is massive amounts of data from above all social media, they target voters with micro-advertising through a variety of front organisations.
Cambridge Analytica were instrumental in the Trump election victory but have been active all over the globe. Beyond merely this company the issue is wide-ranging and potentially catastrophic for representative democracy. While we are critical towards this as well, the shift that Cambridge Analytica represents is truly worrying. Thus, this documentary is a must see.
