Work stops and the earth shakes! On March 8, 2017, the women of the world will gather together in a united roar for the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S STRIKE. It is a day when we organize ourselves and take action to transform the world we want to live in. We are on strike in the home and on the streets, in the workplace and in schools. We are on strike together with friends, neighbours, colleagues and sisters worldwide.
On the 8th of March 2017 we strike:
For a society without oppression and exploitation, where women and non-binary persons are treated with dignity and respect regardless of ethnicity, sexuality, class, disabilities, age or religion.
For abortion rights and for all women to have the right to decide and have autonomy over their bodies. Against male violence and the repressive bill introduced right now around the world to restrict women's right to abortion. Motherhood is not our only fate.
For all women to have the right to quality maternity care. For obstetric care near our home! To settle in rural areas or small towns should not entail a higher risk for pregnant women. Stop shutting down our hospitals and maternity clinics!
Against the Swedish media’s reproduction of sexism where our daughters and our bodies are projected and objectified in the commodity market, whose main task is to maintain a structure of power relations that promote patriarchal and capitalist interests.
To stop the neo-colonial capitalist from gaining ground that creates and reproduces unequal relations between rich and poor countries where women, children and nature are affected the most. Stop the exploitation of women in sex trafficking and mail-order brides! Stop transnational corporate exploitation of women's cheap labor and exploitation of the Earth.
We are on strike against the liberal regime that has erased the memory of our foremothers struggle and deprive our existence, from becoming political and social beings.
For all those who are victims of patriarchal violence and murder. For these voices are violently extinguished in Sweden and around the world. In Sweden between 15 and 20 women die each year. The World Health Organization estimates that between 30 and 60 percent of women worldwide at some time have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by a partner.
We are on strike for all LGBT people murdered in hate crimes, because they understand us.
In order not to live in fear of being raped or that our daughters might be raped.
Against Sweden's cooperation with NATO, the Swedish war industry and the export of weapons to war-torn countries where women's bodies are used as battlefields.
Against patriarchal violence and its brutality, and the media's attempts to intimidate us and portray us as victims. Together we will use the grief that we bare to find strength in the common struggle. We are on strike against the increasing cruelty, we strike for a feminist society!
We reject
The patriarchal capitalist system that oppresses and exploits women, and kills humanity and nature.
The nation states and market exploiting us with debt.
Profit-driven companies in the welfare sector that exploit and underpay women for the benefit of their own economic gains.
The wage gap of 12.5 % between women and men, which means that women on average work for free one hour a day, earning an average of 4,200 crowns less every month and 50,400 crowns less per year. If women's wages continue to be raised at this slow pace, it will take 33 years to achieve equal pay and we do not accept that!
The institutionalized racism that forces migrant women to work under increasingly unsafe conditions.
On the 8th of March we organize
We organize ourselves and use the strike as a tool because we can not accept the patriarchal order in Swedish society and in the world. We see that the situation is urgent! Right populism and fascism is on a rampage promoting and enhancing this world order that is repressive and oppressive to all of us.
On March 8, all of us who do not have the formal opportunity to strike will also strike; even if we are unemployed, precarious workers, even if we are undocumented. Because we are all exploited.
We organize ourselves everywhere: in our workplaces and in our homes, in our cities and in our neighborhoods. The power of our movement lies in the ties and links we have with each other. The strike will be social and transnational as it moves between the workplace and the community. It is a feminist mobilization that brings us together across borders, all of us who struggle daily against oppression. We are part of a global women's rebellion.
We organize ourselves against isolation in the home and against the norms that imposes the women's role through the patriarchal family model to be one of subordination. Against the norms that require motherhood, against the standards that assume heterosexuality.
We organize ourselves because we do not forget, because we love, because we dream and we dare to struggle to create a world without patriarchy and oppression.
International Women's Strike
The international feminism takes action against the neo-conservative forces that are growing and getting stronger. We work together across national borders and build bridges instead of walls. We are part of a global feminist movement and the strike paves the way for a future beyond oppression and exploitation.
We organize ourselves through a global women's strike together to show that we have had enough.
For sisters around the world:
Your struggle is our struggle and our struggle is the yours!
On March 8th 2017, we strike for change, feminism and the future. We are on strike together in a sisterhood without borders!
