Facebook is our enemy!

Many people are using facebook. They see it as a convenient tool of communication. But besides the convenient aspects, facebook uses its platform to surveil everyone and everything. Facebook collects all the data it is able to get its hands on, analyzes and sells them. Not only contact information are affected but also content. Despite this for many people the usefulness of facebook seems more important because most of their contacts are available there.

But facebook is collaborating with the police and intelligence services. Facebook offers them customized on flight and and refugees. Since 2015, facebook voluntarily cooperates with Europol, the european police. If a special analysis software detects communication about flight and the freedom of movement, these information are forwarded to Europol.

And facebook allows Europol to actively scan the communication on topics concerning help for fleeing refugees on their own. The same applies for twitter. Soon Europol is supposed to get the tracking data (the data that tells about your whereabouts) directly from facebook. This way the police would always know where you are, who you are communicating with and about what.

All this is dangerous for refugees and those helping them and is able to interrupt or even prevent the flight.

1,5 billion users are on facebook but it is not possible to hide in between. And facebook does not forget. It is possible to still get into trouble in five years, because you are now (accidentally) communicating with people the european police is interested in.

And they are always interested in those who want to get into the EU and those willing to help them om their way.

So be careful what you write via facebook or twitter and when and where you are carrying a switched on smartphone or mobile phone. It can make sense not to talk or write about specific escape routes and spots via phone or internet. Or to switch of your phone (and take out the battery) when you are hiding or crossing a border. Without your phone revealing the knowledge about your plans and the places you are, you want to be or where you have been it is much harder for them to find you. Try to find alternative ways of communication.

Facebook is your enemy! Freedom of movement is everybody's right!
