London: Two thousand people joined the
antifascist counter protests against the racist Democratic Football Lads
Alliance (DFLA) on Saturday. The anti-fascist unity demo, led by a
militant feminist bloc, outnumbered and blocked the DFLA march, forcing
the cops to delay, kettle and reroute them.
The antifascist unity demo was led by a
feminst block. The fascists had tried to capture issues like violence
against women. The Women’s Strike Assembly
organized a series of meetings before yesterdays protests. One of the
things that were discussed at the prepatory meetings and assemblies for
the feminst block was that anti-fascists should not simply react to
far-right demonstrations but set their own agenda.
The demo stopped in front of
the Brazilian embassy. Women from the Brazilian territory headed to the
front of the demo to protest against Jair Bolsonaro, who won the
first-round of the presidential election last week.
Antifascist counter protesters blocked
the route of the DFLA march through central London, leaving hundreds of
fascists stuck in Pall Mall. Some of the fascist DFLA supporters started
to fight with the cops in an attempt to break through police lines, but
most of the fascists limited themselves to “Britain! Britain” chants.
These chants drowned as the antifascists “No Pasran!” chants were much
louder.
The fascists were not able to march on their planned route. The antifascist blockade was determined and strong in numbers, so the cops had no other possibility as to kettle and reroute the fascist DFLA march.
David Rosenberg of the Jewish Socialist Group said: ““If
Tommy Robinson and his privileged allies have only learned one lesson
from history, then I will help them learn a bit more. That the people
who you hate, who the National Front hated, who Oswald Mosley hated,
will fight back. Every time you share the hate, you also tell us about
the kind of alliance we need to build against you and your followers.”
