We are stopping the highway to Kalundborg from being build! The
highway is build to the profit of Novo Nordisk and Mærsk, who have base
in Kalundborg, and have long wished for a highway to transport goods and
workers faster to their factories and harbours. We refuse to let our
forests be asphalted for the profit of warmongering and anti-feminist
mega companies. We have established two tree houses and a kitchen in the
small forest due to be cut down this autumn. We will stay and live in
the path of highways until there is a moratorium on all highway
expansions in Denmark.
OPEN CALL TO JOIN US! The spirit of
forest occupation is that everyone are welcome to come and visit or move
in. We hope that other people will join us and help us fight this
industrialisation. You do not need to have climbing skills (you can
learn it here if you wish), or any special equipment other than normal
camping gear if you want to sleep here.
HOW TO FIND US? Our occupation can be found near the Møllekrog rest spot in Orekrog forest, coordinates: 55.656909, 11.552753. Just a 15 min walk from Knapstrup station, 1h outside of Copenhagen!
We hope to see your there. You are invited to come by for a few hours or stay for multiple weeks.

WHY? Forest occupations have been effective means of stopping destructive projects in other parts of Europe and the US. Current reforestation and reswamping efforts are not enough. We demand targeted protection of local nature. We are determined to stay and live in the path of highways until there is a moratorium on all highway expansions in Denmark.
All life is heavily impacted by the expansion of the highway. The promised wildlife tunnels turn out to be smaller and fewer than planned, leaving little room for larger animals outside of private hunting grounds. Forest areas with old trees are supposed to be cut beginning October, raising concerns among biologists about local bat populations. Losing that habitat will mean that the bats can no longer echolocate their surroundings as well, resulting in more roadkills.
Forests are important climate regulators and also help us humans to regulate emotionally by connecting with nature.
Vejdirektoratet is arguing that the highway development will bring
economic benefits to the local population and cut down on traffic. Yet
even by the government's own metric of socialeconomic rentability, the
highway does more harm than good for the people.
We also want to be
clear that more roads never mean less traffic. This is called "induced
traffic". This highway will lead to more heavy transport towards
Kalundborg and is of utmost importance for global players like
Novonordisk situated there. They are the main drivers behind this
ecologically disastrous project.
Novonordisk is one of Denmark's most important money-makers, selling new weight-loss drugs that celebrities and influencers around the world consume to fit into misogynist and unhealthy beauty standards of thinness. We see resistance to Novo as part of an intersectional feminist practice. Novonordisk is a pharmaceutical company. Despite its good reputation, it is no better than any other company in the health sector: They capitalize on people's sickness, exclude poor people from medication and block affordable drug production through patents. Insulin and all other life saving medication must be free and easily accessible! Novonordisk is part of the problem, not the solution.
Kalundborgmotorvejen is also built in the context of a current international militarisation.
Only
recently, the US military and other NATO states had a layover in
Kalundborg on their way to play war during their training session on
Gotland. We refuse the media's fearmongering and the government's
prepping-madness that will force us into war. Kalundborg shall not
become a hub for war machines, nor have a highway that can be used for
troop transports.
All over Denmark, the state is currently planning on building 15 new highways. This is projected to cost tens of billions dkk. This is unacceptable! Even the most conservative agencies know we are in a biodiversity emergency.
By building Kalundborgmotorvejen, the government has decided on fueling ecocide, furthering patriarchal body norms, and investing in military development.
Kalundborgegnens erhvervsråd wants to see Kalundborg from the moon.
We want to see the moon from Kalundborg!
We, along with many locals, disagree with these plans.
Who are
we? Skovmagt is a growing activist collective in Denmark with the
purpose of protecting the country's remaining forest from being cut down
to accommodate new highways.
If you want to stand with us, come join or leave a greeting!
