In the 1970s, the anarcho-syndicalist Carl Heinrich Petersen published the book "De glemte revolutionære" (The Forgotten Revolutionaries) which remains one of the most important Danish-language works on anarchism, syndicalism, and other social-revolutionary personal histories in Denmark. Yet the author is not widely known, because anarchism and syndicalism never truly took root as movements in Denmark. When these movements did appear in the public eye, it was often through militant periods in the labor movement or through individual figures in an artistic avant-garde.
There were periods in the Scandinavian bohemian scene in Copenhagen around 1900 and later, where many activists and artists embraced utopian ideas and criticism of authority. Other trends within anarchism also emerged, including “propaganda by the deed” This current was present in Denmark as well, including attacks attributed to anarchists. Anarchists were among the first in the opposition wing of the Social Democratic Party. Other anti-authoritarians included the “young socialists” and the syndicalists. The latter were initiators of some of the most important events in the labor movement and became nationally known through the “Storm on the Stock Exchange” and the “Battle of Grønttorvet” (1918)—events that brought the country close to revolution.
The talk aims to provide an overview of key individuals and events in the early years of the labor movement, when anarchism and syndicalism had the greatest influence. It will also trace the libertarian “red-and-black” thread through history, focusing on the period from the 1890s to the 1940s, with occasional references up to the present day.
The talk will be held in English, last approximately 45 minutes, and will be accompanied by a slideshow. There will be time for questions and informal discussion at the end. Tables with informational materials and books from Sorte Fane and other libertarian socialist groups will be available at Folkets Hus Café.

Foredrag: Den (næste) glemte anarkistiske og syndikalistiske historie i Danmark

I 1970’erne udgav anarko-syndikalisten Carl Heinrich Petersen bogen "De glemte revolutionære", som den dag i dag er et af de vigtigste dansksprogede værker om anarkisme, syndikalisme og andre socialrevolutionære personhistorier i Danmark. Alligevel er forfatteren ikke kendt i en bredere offentlighed, fordi anarkismen og syndikalismen aldrig for alvor slog rod som bevægelser i Danmark. Når bevægelserne alligevel trådte frem i offentligheden, skete det ofte i form af militante perioder i arbejderbevægelsen eller gennem enkeltpersoner i en kunstnerisk avantgardebevægelse.
Der var perioder i det skandinaviske bohememiljø i København omkring år 1900 og senere, hvor mange aktivister og kunstnere tog utopi og autoritetskritik til sig. Der var også andre tendenser inden for anarkismen, herunder “handlingens propaganda”. Denne strømninger fandtes også i Danmark, herunder attentater, som blev tilskrevet anarkister. Anarkisterne var blandt de første i oppositionsfløjen i Socialdemokratiet. Andre antiautoritære var med “unsocialister” og syndikalister. Sidstnævnte var initiativtagere til nogle af de vigtigste begivenheder i arbejderbevægelsen og blev landskendte gennem “Stormen på Børsen” og “Slaget på Grønttorvet” (1918) – begivenheder, der bragte landet tæt på revolution.
Foredraget prøver at give et overblik over personer og begivenheder i de første år af arbejderbevægelsen, hvor anarkismen og syndikalismen havde størst indflydelse. Det vil også følge den libertære “rød-sorte” tråd gennem historien med fokus på perioden fra 1890’erne til 1940’erne, med enkelte afstikkere frem til i dag.
Foredraget bliver holdt på engelsk, varer cirka 45 minutter, ledsaget af slideshow, og der vil være plads til spørgsmål og uformel snak til sidst. Der vil være borde med infomateriale og salg af bøger fra Sorte Fane og andre libertære socialistiske grupper i Folkets Hus Café.
